Spiderman 2

Tagline: This summer a man will face his destiny. A hero will be revealed

I've been wanting to watch this movie from the time part one was finished. Wow, I must say that this was a terrific sequel. Finally a sequel that's worth talking about. If you've been reading up on the movie, you would see there are quite a few raves compared to the critisism. So let's get down to describing the movie.

The first thing that struck me was that Spiderman's costume seems to have been made nicer. It had a high quality tang to it. Well this is good for the screen, but according to the movie Peter Parker seems to be pretty broke, I wonder where he got the money to add that shine to the costume, but that's just being picky. The movie itself was about Peter finding out that his life can't revolve round being Spiderman and that he needs to get his priorities right and a whole load of action in between.

Well, the bad guy in this movie is Dr. Octopus or actually a guy whose got these 4 mechanical arms (very strong arms actually) permanentely attached to himself in an experiment that goes wrong (usual story). For those who don't get it, 4 mechanical + 4 normal limbs = 8 limbs, thus octopus. Well, since his first experiment goes wrong, he wants to get it right and thus goes around creating havoc and trying to get himself the equipment for a second experiment. That's when Spiderman comes in and tries to save the day. (notice the word "tries"). Things get tangled up and Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) and Harry Osborn (Green Goblin's son) get into the web and well, I think you should watch the movie for more details.

All in all, I recommend this movie if you want a bit of action + a bit of story + if you liked the previous installment + if you like to see Tobey Maguire twist his face a lot. I liked the CG of the movie although you can see the animation (remided me of the cartoon).

Rating? I'd give it a 7.5/10

Dodgeball

Tagline 1: A true underdog story.
Tagline 2: Grab life by the ball

In short, I liked this movie. But it was rather droky I must say. The movie was fun if you like silly jokes. Ben Stiller really goes to town in this movie and I think he is the main character in this movie. His character was the bad guy and does he make it look good.

Well, the story in short is this. The typical big organization trying to take over the smaller organization and making it a parking lot and giving the smaller organization a minimum amount of time to come up with a huge amount of money which is virtually impossible for the smaller organization to come up. (Wow that was a long sentence).

Anyway, Ben Stiller is the ultimate fitness guy. He was once fat and decided to become fit and kept to his diet/exercise (unlike us) and formed the Global Gym where his training soon became famous and he becomes rich and cocky. Soon you get the advertisements saying things like "We are better than you, and we know it".

Well, right opposite Global Gym is the Average Joes Gym who is owned by the expressionless Vince Vaughn , who caters to the rather downtrodden "I don't lose weight even if I try" type. He is given 30 days to find $50,000 to pay off his loan or he loses the gym. The guys who workout at the gym are quite a set of characters, but they all work out that they can only raise that money if they win the Dodgeball Tourament.

Well, Stiller joins the tournament too, with his musclebound players and of course the two teams end up in the finals and you get the usual story after that. The movie is good for quite a few laughs, and the performance by Stiller was excellent. I recommend this movie if you're bored, because there's not much you need to think about while watching it.

The Chronicles Of Riddick

Tagline: All the power in the universe can't change destiny.

Well, I was waiting for this movie after seeing Pitch Black the film in which Vin Diesel exploded onto the movie scene. I think a lot of you might not have watched Pitch Black, but it was definetely better than Vin Diesel's XXX.

Well my expectations were all shattered when I watched this movie. It was pathetic I should say. The main attraction of the Riddick character played by Vin Diesel in Pitch Black was that he was cold blooded. No compassion of any sort. The Chronicles changes all that and makes him a man who falls in love, actually feels for people, etc.

The plot is as such. An army of Necromongers attack the universe landing on planets one by one and converting all the people on those planets to the "Necromongan" Religion as they call it. One of their main principles of this religion is that "You can keep what you kill" meaning, that if you kill someone, all his possessions are yours.

Now the best part is how Riddick gets involved in all this. This movie is nothing about the fact that he can see in the dark as the previous one was. This is because of his origins. He was born a Furion which is the only race that was supposed to be able to stand up to the Necromongers.

Now the usual plot is that "The bounty on your head will be lifted if you save the world" exists in this movie. And therefore he goes about doing just that. The fight sequences are ok if you like to see a mix between Mortal Kombat and Star Trek. But to me it was just a whole lot of Visual Effects and was not impressive at all. I guess others might have other opinions.

All in all, I was disappointed, maybe just because my expectations of this movie were too high, but I can't be entirely wrong if you check out the Box office record of this movie. Action Fans out there might like this if you want to watch it for action only.

The Godfather - No more!

I can't believe it, I just read the news that Marlon Brando has passed away. His character of the Godfather was my favourite movie character of all time. His acting in that film made a permanent imprint in my head, and I'm never going to forget him.

Well, all I can give are my deepest condolences and watch the Godfather again in his memory.

The Last Samurai

Tagline - "In the face on an enemy, in the Heart of One Man, Lies the Soul of a Warrior."

I finally got down to watching this movie. Have been putting it off for ages and the worst part was that I had owned it for the past 3 months or more actually.

And oh boy, what a movie. I loved this movie, it's definetely going into my Top 10 movies of all time. You get to see the Japanese culture at its best in the "Not so developed" Japan and the "Getting Developed" Japan.

It's about an American War Hero (Tom Cruise) who is sent off to Japan to train their army to fight the rebellion by the last of the Samurai (Warriors). He's made to fight the Samurai before the army is trained and is defeated. The Samurai capture him and keep him alive because of his determination to survive.

After this is where the movie starts getting interesting. He is taken to the Samurais' Village and is treated for his wounds and recovers. What others might find rather curious is that the woman that cares for him is actually one of the warriors who was slain by Cruise himself. And it really is heart rendering how she goes through with it. It shows the truth behind the Samurai. Wow, was I impressed.

Finally he befriends the Samurai and becomes one of them to fight the army who is now fully trained with the latest weapons (of that time). The ending of the movie is one of the best I've seen in a long time. You got to see this movie.
