The Last Samurai

Tagline - "In the face on an enemy, in the Heart of One Man, Lies the Soul of a Warrior."

I finally got down to watching this movie. Have been putting it off for ages and the worst part was that I had owned it for the past 3 months or more actually.

And oh boy, what a movie. I loved this movie, it's definetely going into my Top 10 movies of all time. You get to see the Japanese culture at its best in the "Not so developed" Japan and the "Getting Developed" Japan.

It's about an American War Hero (Tom Cruise) who is sent off to Japan to train their army to fight the rebellion by the last of the Samurai (Warriors). He's made to fight the Samurai before the army is trained and is defeated. The Samurai capture him and keep him alive because of his determination to survive.

After this is where the movie starts getting interesting. He is taken to the Samurais' Village and is treated for his wounds and recovers. What others might find rather curious is that the woman that cares for him is actually one of the warriors who was slain by Cruise himself. And it really is heart rendering how she goes through with it. It shows the truth behind the Samurai. Wow, was I impressed.

Finally he befriends the Samurai and becomes one of them to fight the army who is now fully trained with the latest weapons (of that time). The ending of the movie is one of the best I've seen in a long time. You got to see this movie.

It might be a quite old movie, but you should also see Shogun (Richard Chamberlain) if you haven't already..

Welcome to blogging, btw
